What can be seen with ultrasound?

Organs and tissues that contain fluid or are close to the skin surface can be examined with ultrasound. The method is used to examine the liver, kidneys, gallbladder, heart, muscles, joints and tendons, among other things. An ultrasound is also very useful for detecting inflammation, cysts, fluid accumulation and narrowing of blood vessels.
